This car is almost tempting me to sell my truck to get it, what do you think Oppo? Good idea or no?

That site looks sketch as hell.

What could possibly go wrong?

I agree with jkm about the sketchy site, but those are great cars. Looks like an SPG too.

If the transmission is good, they're awesome little cars...the engine is setup super strange though, it's longitudinally mounted, but with the transmission at the bumper and the belts at the firewall. I had an '89 Turbo that I loved, such a fun car.

Why does it have a german plate?

What kind of truck?
I'm tempted to say that this would be a bad idea.

This car is located in Pennsylvania, one of the few states that don't require front plates.

Its a local site for people to sell things in PA, it looks a little sketchy, but it's honestly not that bad because it's all local people.
![]() 03/19/2015 at 19:30 |

I'm assuming because they thought it looked cool, and a front plate isn't mandatory in PA so you can put on whatever you want

Also, the picture looks quite old.

I figured it was in PA :) I just did not understand the German front plate. A Swedish one I'd understand though..
Oh.. yeah, lot's of people with German ancestry in PA.. My bad :)

No. Buy a E60 535i instead because it's better than an M5.

Yeah, I figured it out, as I said to Zach I just did not understand the German plate (I'd've gone for a Swedish one), then I realised that there's a lot of people with German ancestry in PA. :)

A lot, that's why I haven't done it yet.

Yeah, the website is really only sketchy because its just a local site, its mostly used for buying and selling livestock, pets, and farm equipment. But it also happens to be a great place to look for local cars.

I might go look at it soon, it isn't too far away.

Two ways to tell if this is an SPG. One- the sticker at the fuel door says PREMIUM UNLEADED FUEL ONLY. Two- the build sticker behind the driver door card has the word AERO on it. If either of these are true, BUY BUY BUY! A 1500 dollar SPG is a steal! If the sticker just says UNLEADED FUEL ONLY then what that is is a 900 Turbo with appearance package. Also not a bad price there.
1988 was a good year. First year with rear parking brake, the APC controller and ECU are more robust and front end fit is better than the 1987.

Yeah, I definitely would go check it out way before I ever thought about doing anything to be able to buy it

The picture just looks strangely old...

I have a 1998 Chevy C1500 W/T (literally no options at all whatsoever) single cab, short bed, rwd, 285,000 miles, it's slowly returning to the dust from which it came

Nothing to lose going to look. They rust at the front fender flares, so check those out. Floors aren't usually an issue. Another poster mentions how to tell if it's an SPG...I honestly didn't even notice it was, haha. The SPGs are also usually debadged on the trunk lid, so just the Scania logo, no "Saab 900 Turbo" badging. Cool car though, I hope it's nice.

That you for the info! I'll keep that in mind!

Okay then it might not be too bad.
I've seen a couple of these at junk yards, they have a real funny longitudinal fwd set up.
They don't look spectacularly easy to work on

Thanks for the info!

Yeah, but I'm okay with extra effort working on it, I enjoy a challenge

Knowing the people that live around here, it's probably because it was taken with a digital camera from like 2005.

For the price I'd say it's worth checking out in person.

I forgot about that! It'll be missing the SAAB logo on the fenders too. But that can't always be trusted as badges are easy to remove.

They are complicated beasts. I am currently restoring a 1987 SPG
![]() 03/19/2015 at 21:48 |

German plates are also easier to obtain.
![]() 03/19/2015 at 22:00 |

Also: If this car is an SPG, not rusted out (check the front axle portals - primary cancer region) and you don't buy it YOU ARE DEAD TO NIBBLES

UPDATE: Upon further investigation I found that the wiring in the car is sketchy as all get-out, and that the work that has been done for the last many years has been done by people that have no idea what they're doing, plus it isn't an SPG.
For reference, the switch on the left is for the high and low beams, the one on the right is the fuel pump, the stalk on the steering wheel on the left is busted off.

ABORT! ABORT! (STEAL THAT GAUGE POD FOR ME AND) ABORT!

Oh and the original steering wheel is in the passenger seat and there is a racing one in its place, that's bolted on in a very sketchy way, it's altogether a bad idea
